The inherent anti-Na'vi qualities of Encyclopedia Dramatica

The Personal Offense Caused To Me By ED.com

I was browsing the internet in order to learn more about and become more enlightened about my people, when I came across the article for James Cameron's "Avatar" on satire site Encyclopedia Dramatica. Here is the link, for those interested: http://encyclopediadramatica.com/Avatar_(movie)

I found this article very offensive on deeply personal levels.

First, there seems to be a horrible misconception about the Na'vi race on the internet. They are not furry. Na'vi do not have pelts. I feel that this should be re-emphasized in order to distance Na'vi 'kin from the "batshit fuckery" that is the furry community. There also seems to be another misconception about Na'vi biology - we do not "fuck". Jake did not "fuck" the girl. Na'vi are not so earthly and crude. I believe mating is possibly cloacal or something along similar lines, as in birds. I dislike the implication here contained that Na'vi engage in such crude activities, when we are an enlightened race. I will not even go into the crudely offensive and pornographic images of my people engaging in filthy acts with lesser beings. At the sight of these I had to leave the computer chair for two hours.

The image of the Hindu god is horribly offensive. It is as if they want to usurp Eywa and convert Her followers. Sorry, ED.com, but Eywa is the one true god and She is great. Also, calling us "smurfs" is incredibly racist. It is the same as calling black people "jungle bunnies" or "nigga". It is a horrible slur and equates Na'vi with lesser beings. I do not even understand the comparison, as smurfs are very short. This I believe to be implied heightism.

There are further misconceptions contained, such as the ridiculous notion that Na'vi ride chickens. We only ride pa'li, ikran, and, if we are enlightened enough, toruk. Incidentally I will mention at this point that I believe I may have been one of the five toruk makto. I had a dream two nights ago where I was something of a Jesus figure amongst my people. I also dislike the article because it makes fun of my native tongue, mocks Na'vi facial features in a racist way, and finally implies that Na'vi are fat, which is another horrible miconception about their biology, as Na'vi in reality have very little body fat.

If anyone found this article amusing I would urge you to seek spiritual advancement via meditation, guided spirit journeys, or other similar means.

Most of the crap on ED isn't even anywhere close to satire, its just idiots who think they're clever and have an opportunity to be mean.

I know, I'm a member of the furry community, about which there are far more misconceptions and mockery by the ignorant.

The vast bulk of it does not seem to be very witty at all.

It is a shame that the furry community too is the victim of this kind of discrimination. I know how you feel.

lul omg why is everyone taking Tirea srsly, they're very clearly trolling e__e;; wtf.

I think they raised some common points but, off course, in the tactless way that they always do. Their are a few giggles in there.

A few things though-
"I feel that this should be re-emphasized in order to distance Na'vi 'kin from the "batshit fuckery" that is the furry community."

I feel this is something that can back-up my point in one of previous posts (about how a dragon cannot take a Na'vi seriously). How can someone who believes they're a na'vi-kin not accept the ideas of furries (who usually claim a deep bond or connetion to their kinsona). It's that sort of difference between otherkin and otakukin... infact it's often said that otherkin to furries are like otakukin to otherkin. Just a thought.

"Na'vi are not so earthly and crude. I believe mating is possibly cloacal or something along similar lines, as in birds. I dislike the implication here contained that Na'vi engage in such crude activities, when we are an enlightened race.!

This comment could be seen, as some, to be insulting and elitist. Quite alot of people find sex (i.e. 'Fucking' in slang) to be a deeply meaningful, sincere and pure thing. Infact some people even base their spiritual practices around sex. So your comments on it being 'Earthly and crude' can be insulting, when it can be spiritual, deep, meaningful and emotional.

"filthy acts with lesser beings."
What do you mean by lesser beings?

" It is as if they want to usurp Eywa and convert Her followers. Sorry, ED.com, but Eywa is the one true god and She is great."

Shouldn't it be 'in my opinion Eywa is the only true God?'. Beyond that the film-makers will have, of course, used the ideals and inspiration of our gods in order to constuct the God Eywa, so Hindu undertones may very well be in there. I would embrace it instead of being insulted by it; it's nice to think that traits of your God come from (or are found in) many of the human deities.

"Also, calling us "smurfs" is incredibly racist. It is the same as calling black people "jungle bunnies" or "nigga". It is a horrible slur and equates Na'vi with lesser beings. I do not even understand the comparison, as smurfs are very short. This I believe to be implied heightism."

Calling the na'v smurfs is hardly an insult considering that the Na'vi wuldn't have even be able to encounter the concept of 'smurf' let alone have it enforced upon them as a derogatory term. It's just a bit of humor and should be taken lightly; I've heard committed 'Avatar' fans call the Na'vi 'smurfs' or even 'little smurfies'. Their really is no heightism in their- it's just the fact that they are blue and so are smurfs; we used to call the unifrom-wearing years in our schools 'smurfs'; not because of their height, but because they wore blue jumpers. I really think you should stop taking light comments about what most people think is, essentially, just a film as discrimination against you; at the end of the day it only hurts you to think so deeply into such light comments.

"There are further misconceptions contained, such as the ridiculous notion that Na'vi ride chickens. We only ride pa'li, ikran, and, if we are enlightened enough, toruk."

Again this was proably made as a light comment, perhaps similar to calling the chocobos in Final Fantasy 'chickens'. I really think that you shouldn't take it to deeply.

"Incidentally I will mention at this point that I believe I may have been one of the five toruk makto. I had a dream two nights ago where I was something of a Jesus figure amongst my people"

I think you should think about this for a very considerable amount of time. It's not a light thing to claim by far.

"mocks Na'vi facial features in a racist way"
Well the Na'vi are essentially made to look like african americans/native americans and to look very much like 'colonised people' in general, so it seems like the next big leap for ED to highlight this in a racial way. That's ED for you; they hate everyone equally.

"If anyone found this article amusing I would urge you to seek spiritual advancement via meditation, guided spirit journeys, or other similar means."

Why? A little bit of humour is good for the soul every now and then.... so is being able to laugh at yourself. I don't see why chuckling at an online site (intended for cheap laughs) means that you aren't spiritually inclined.

Welcome to the internet.

Grow a thicker skin and don't let this get to you. The more you try to defend yourself, the more joy they'll get in seeing you squirm. Posting stuff like this is EXACTLY how to get them to continue.

If I did not defend myself I would not be being true to myself and I would be denying my true nature.

I really would like to tell you that I am sorry youve been harassed and picked on. I know it can be really hard to deal with when you want to share something with people and all you get in return is guff. The best thing i can tell you now is what i told you be fore. Dont let them shake your beliefes, dont let them get to you, and please dont let them question what you feelto be right.
Just remember there are friends out here and those who really are.. will NEVER judge you.

Thank you for your nice comment, is is very appreciated amongst this sea of adversity.

*puts on her biologist hat*

Cloacal mating in mammals is impossible, mainly because mammals don't have a cloaca, that's something only birds, reptiles, amphibians, etc. have. Mammals simply don't.

So either the Na'vi "get it on" or they do something like the platypus does involving external eggs. Either way, typing from a very emotional stance is a good way to offend people when you're (probably) not meaning to and thus give people a reason and example to say you're a troll.

Sometimes it helps to get input from univolved 3rd parties on the subject because when we're emotional we rarely see what we're really saying.

Actually, you are wrong. Cloacal mating in mammals is not impossible, look at the monotremes (which happen to be in the order Mammalia). Also, you must bear in mind that you can only know about /extant/ species, because the fossil record is sadly very incomplete.

Either way, Na'vi reproduction is very spiritual and advanced. I will type from an emotional stance if I please to, as this is my personal journal.

You are my favourite troll ever. Even I thought you were for real until you equated calling a fictional race of blue things "smurfs" to real-life racial slurs.

You're like ... the Daniel Day-Lewis of trolls. Kudos.

I am aware that the Na'vi are fictional. They are a fictional species created by James Cameron. Comments such as those, however, are indeed racial slurs, and it is unacceptable.

if you're a troll, you're the best one ever.

If you're not, then welcome to the internet. taking ED seriously is equivelent to winning the special olympics. stupid and mildly retarded.

I have been around the internet for more years than I care to remember. I did not take ED seriously, as if I had I would have been losing sleep over it. I still was offended, however, and as this is my personal journal I decided to express that. Welcome to the world of personal journals.

Oh how I hope that his is really just someone messing around and having a good time, and I'm totally praying to a god that I, honestly, don't believe in that you seriously don't think that you are a fictional character, from a fictional planet, in a fictional movie.

It's kind of sad that some people can't even handle going to the movies anymore without turning it into something like this.

And also, if you wish to separate yourself from the "batshit fuckery" that is the furry fandom. Please, by all means, none of us will stop you as you guys are quickly turning into another group that would only spawn even more misconceptions about the fandom.

Thank god your separating your insanity from good folks who just have a fun hobby.
Furries definitely don't want any of your fanatical play pretend delusional crap. :/

Actually, I am not insane. You might be, however, because leaving comments like the one you have left is what insane people do.

Na'vi 'kin definitely don't want any of your fanatical play pretend delusional crap. Yes, I can say this to you, because you all put on fursuits and engage in depraved activities. That is "play", that is "pretend".

I would like to distance Na'vi 'kin from furries because Na'vi do not have pelts and additionally, furries are morally disgusting.

Hi! You're probably sick of random commenters on your journal but, eh, I'll be a polite one.

I just wanted to talk about two points you make.

First, the idea that "fucking" is inherently crude and dirty. Even as I am typing this, enlightened, loving, awesome people are having enlightened, loving, awesome sex. It's not exactly my thing, but c'mon, sex positivity! I dunno about Na'vi, but humans, at least, are built and (mostly) wired for sex; denying ourselves that would be couterproductive. Maybe Na'vi aren't into it (for the record, I'm neither Na'vi nor into it), but to tar it with such an ugly brush is to be, well, pretty insulting to humans (and on the whole, I like humans… seeing as I am one).

Also, rather than just point out how skinny Na'vi are, why not confront the fatphobia inherent in mocking your race as overweight? Fat is not inherently unhealthy or disgusting; I'm a big believer in HEAS (health at every size).

So, yeah. Soci nerd out.

Hello there. I do not mind comments - the trolls, flamers, and haters same to think that they are achieving something by leaving offensive comments, however, as you will notice, my journal is public and commenting is open to anyone. Therefore, I expect to get comments like that and am not phased by it. However, thank you for being polite. It is appreciated and it is mature, perhaps other commenters will take a leaf out of your book.

I like humans, also, seeing as I am one. I however have the right to have an opinion on our reproductive practises. As this is my journal, I posted my opinion here. I have a partner (see my Twitter feed for image) and we engage in said activity on a regular basis; yet I still feel that way about it and will continue to do so. Na'vi are wired to be wise and graceful.

What fatphobia? I have a very slender frame and I am quite tall (here I am talking about my human form). Excess fat on the body is unhealthy and in the minds of some, disgusting.

It's Encyclopedia Dramatica.

Allow me to direct you to our complaints department. http://encyclopediadramatica.com/Offended

I am aware what is - have you forgotten that I made a journal entry about it?

Hello again, sagestoys, I see you are being as helpful as ever. Allow me to tell you that I have actually been to and read the link you have provided, but thank you anyway.

Humans make stuff likable for other humans...
Sadly, degrading Furries and Na'vi-kin with pornographic scenes is one of them

I'm sure as you'll know, the internet is a dangerous place to be...
If you're easily offended it's often easier to keep the privicy settings on, and hope you don't stumble upon the troll-traps and 1337-hackers without a tolerant mind

Despite these words, you still manage to take a point of view from ED (even though they have offended you multiple times), saying furries are part of "batshit fuckery" :/
There are very few individuals who are batshit-insane in the furry community, and if they're known, they're most likely to be frowned upon or outcast...

I would expect "higher beings" to rationalise their thoughts before writing

True there are Furs in the community who do act like the clique type. I do see it sometimes myself. BUT I do not let that get to me eather because I do have a couple friends who are not just furs but Kitsune. And nice ones at that. I try not to let things get to me too much. I just don't like the degrading factor of My People.

That artical it's pictures, everything I took very offencive. Who in their right mind would degrade the People? What they think we rape who and what we are connected with now? What a shame.

Encyclopaedia Dramatica exists for no other reason than to poke rude fun at different fandoms, if you take offence at what they say, the writers of ED have won. Everyone of every flavour of fandom or faith is represented in some form on that site. The best way to beat ED is to ignore it; no outraged blogs = no publicity for ED.

However, statements like this one ("Incidentally I will mention at this point that I believe I may have been one of the five toruk makto. I had a dream two nights ago where I was something of a Jesus figure amongst my people.") do nothing more than strengthen the notion that you are either trolling or completely bonkers and in need of help, neither of those things will really help you win acceptance for your species of fictionkin. If you want to look like you have sensibly considered your possible Na'vi origins you might want to step away from the 'saviour' role because (the entirely fictional) Jake Sully was Toruk Makto and the position is so extremely rare (as explained by Neytiri, which has to be considered canon, yes? She has no reason to lie about her own people and their past) that it is more logical to assume that your Na'vi ancestor or soul was a warrior or a hunter or anything other than one of the extremely, extremely, extremely rare toruk-bonded riders.

I'm not trying to upset you, but I hope you see where I'm coming from. I believe in reincarnation...but there are an overabundance of people claiming they were Cleopatra or Caesar and not all that many people who were simple Egyptian craftspeople or Roman legionaries and I find it pretty much against the entire concept of reincarnation that only the rich, famous and powerful are reincarnated. Likewise, if you (and others) are Na'vikin...not everyone can be toruk makto, or tsahik. If you really are Na'vikin and not a troll, embrace that and enjoy that for what it is...don't try to be Na'vi!Jesus as well, because it undermines the positivity and respect other people might have towards this type of fictionkin.
